It is that time!
That time of the year when we wish one another merry-filled experiences has come. And soon, every other greeting will be versed as thus: “Happy New Year!”
For many, our idea of fun and merry is having goat meat roasting on a charcoal grill, with anxious family members circled around it, kissing and hugging. If you are like me, you probably can imagine how much fun it will be to meet that funny cousin who makes up the funniest stories just to make you laugh. Or that aunt gifted in summarizing the year’s village gossip. This experience, you surmise, will take place in some village away from this concrete jungle; away from the hustle and bustle of the city. And who can blame you? This is the very same experience you have had every other year, after all!
This year might be like many others for you. And you might just spend your Christmas in the bosoms of loved ones in some village; biting into the ribs of roasted goats and sipping some African tea. Or maybe not.
If you are exactly like me, then you will spend your holidays working, for the most part; and the short break available may not be sufficient to indulge aunties with day-long gossips. If you are exactly like me, then you will also have a family; kids that will be watching news broadcasts of passengers stranded in bus terminuses, and hoping they too can get to some village. And then you will look at their sad faces and console them; honestly hoping that they understand and believe that “daddy’s gotta work!”. But if you are a realist like me, you know that they won’t understand. They can’t! Kids relate to play, not work. Understandably, they cannot comprehend the urgency of December backlogs and your apprehension at the thought of January bills.
But wait, it doesn’t have to be like this. Every year doesn’t need to end with that long family trip to the village and you certainly don’t need to feel like a loser for staying in the city. Surely, there must be other ways to enjoy your holiday. And there are!
As it turns out, there are many fun activities for you and your family to indulge in this festive season. A good place to start is Serena Hotel. If you are like me, you might not have considered city hotels around you, believing that holidays are for villages and jungles. But think again.
