3 Ways to mark Global Wellness Day with Serena Hotels

posted in: Uncategorized | 0

Global wellness Day is one day marked every 9th of June; but one day is all it takes to change your life and so the question we ask is, even if for one day, how can we live a better and healthier lifestyle?

Marking it’s 7th year since it was first introduced in Turkey in 2012, other aims of the day include:

  • To recognize the value of our lives
  • To be free from the stress of everyday city life and bad habits
  • To make peace with ourselves
  • To raise awareness about living well

Currently, wellness has become a big part of the hospitality industry with most hotels offering wellness activities for people travelling whether for business or pleasure. Serena Hotels through the Maisha Spa, Fitness and Health club offers wellness experiences that you can indulge in both as a Maisha Spa member or as a resident.

The Maisha Health Club and Spa product at Serena Hotels is available at the city properties including Nairobi Serena Hotel, Kampala Serena Hotel, Dar es Salaam Serena Hotel, Kigalli Serena Hotel and Polana Serena Hotel in Mozambique, and resorts (Serena Beach Resort and Spa and Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa) as well as Mara Serena Safari Lodge. The product looks to cater for both outer and inner well being of guests.

1. YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT

One of the best ways to practice wellness is to eat healthy foods that fuel your mind and body. Global Wellness Day supports eating natural and organic foods. Whether you shop organic at your local grocery store or have your own backyard garden, swapping in fresh, organic foods is key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

At Serena Hotels, we believe it’s just as important to be mindful about the ingredients you put in your body. With 24 properties operating in 5 countries in Eastern Africa which include Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda and Mozambique, the main ingredients that make up your favorite dishes are sourced from organic farms in each country. In some instances like the Lodges and Camps, the chefs gardens provide fresh produce carefully grown meaning what you get on your plate comes straight from the garden.

2. PRACTICE SELF-CARE

Caring for your health and wellness goes beyond keeping your body fit. Maisha Spa offers a full range of holistic Elemis massage, de-tox, aromatherapy treatment, facials, body brushing and scrub, reflexology, manicure and pedicure. A must try while at the spa is the ultimate in Spa treatments, the much sought-after ‘Hot Stone Therapy’. This product uses tactile and softly rounded stones, brought from the Andes, and imbued with mystic strength, which are gently heated and used in long stroking movements to massage and caress the entire body, leaving you in a state of deep relaxation and calm.

3. EXERCISE REGULARLY

From boosting energy to reducing stress and improving your overall health, exercise is an important part of any day. The Maisha Health Club and Spa offers an outdoor swimming pool, state of the art gymnasium, aerobics studio offering a wide range of workouts, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi and juice bar.  If you need guidance and inspiration, Maisha’s personal trainers will take you through a training session sure to leave you feeling vibrant and invigorated. After your workout, what better way to reward yourself than with a plunge in the outdoor pool?
