I want to extend my thanks to Elizabeth, Michael and the rest of the team at Lake Elmenteita Serena Camp. We had the most amazing time, from champagne on arrival to the friendly farewell at the end. We really appreciated your personal call following our arrival and we certainly felt privileged to stay in the Flamingo Suite. What an amazing location to view the stars of the location; the flamingos and pelican, but also to relax in. My husband Pete, our daughter Kristian and I all felt like VVIPs throughout our stay.
There are so many members of staff I would like to recognize and at risk of missing someone: Michael was fantastic, always there to help and nothing was too much trouble.
Carol looked after us extremely well at every meal, particularly Kristian who was treated like royalty and made to feel really special. He loved the ‘big reveal’ at every meal and I am sure that she will remember this forever.
During our stay, we tried some of their free activities and Gad was an excellent archery instructor. We all enjoyed ourselves and learned a lot in the process, all showing improvement on our second attempt. Our two scorers also kept us on the straight and narrow.
Eric, the camp’s resident naturalist, proved to be a very knowledgeable guide on the morning and night game drives, and although the wildlife was a little elusive, he made sure that we had the best experience that we could, ably supported by Joseph at night.
Lydia seemed to be doing a bit of everything and we were impressed by her knowledge of the conservancy and the birds. She seemed to pop up just when we needed someone and always looked after us. Tabitha, in charge of house keeping, on the other hand made sure we had everything we needed in our room and we really appreciated the hot water bottles, particularly after the night drive. We were hugely impressed with the cleanliness of our room – every little detail considered and ‘just so’.
Finally, a special mention to the chefs. The food was outstanding, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. It was lovely to meet the Chef Joel Wambua, and then of course Kristian had the honour of being allowed to ‘help’ make chocolate mousse. I guess this might have been a little different to Paul and Simon’s normal students, but be assured Kristian took it all in and loved getting some hands on experience in the prestigious kitchen.
Elizabeth clearly runs an efficient but happy staff and not only does she keep a steady hand on the tiller but is also available front of house, which was lovely. I appreciate that there are lots of other people which made our stay perfect – thank you to everyone. Suffice it to say that it is one of the most memorable holidays that we have taken in Kenya, and we shall treasure the memories and remember the smiles. A special thanks to Humphrey from the Serena Hotels head office for ensuring that all our plans become better in reality. We look forward to our next stay with Serena.
