Captivate the senses with the best in contemporary Pan-Asian cuisine at Herbs & Spices Restaurant, commonly known as H&S. Experience vibrant cuisine that reflects the diverse Pan-Asian cultures around the world that would take your palate on a nostalgic journey through South East Asia.
Located inside Nairobi’s premier hotel, Nairobi Serena Hotel’s ground floor, H&S exudes style featuring rustic wooden furniture, interiors with natural color pallets, high ceilings adorned with eclectic chandeliers that perfectly light up the restaurant. The restaurant’s centerpiece features a mural wall composition of sundry herbs and spices reminiscent of various Asia sub continents of origin. With 68 covers, the restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating options; the outdoor seating has a retractable canopy to shelter diners in harsh weather conditions.
At first glance, H&S brings out a simple, cozy yet classy feel that can capture any diner’s attention to enjoy a scrumptious light to heavy lunch and or dinner.
H&S menu was initially curated by Chef De Cuisine, Chef Wayan based in Islamabad Serena Hotel, Wild Rice, Pan-Asian Restaurant working closely with Chef Jackson Wanjohi to see to its implementation. However, Chef Wanjohi has carried the envelop thereafter and is ingeniously switching up the menu fairly often and keeps and up with what’s new.
Foodies and seafood lovers alike will enjoy the vibrant menu that pays homage to the South East Asian flavours and accent Asian classics. A fusion of Japanese, Chinese, Taiwanese, and Korean dishes feature on the menu. Some of the highlights of the menu, which changes every week include; Ayam Goreng Kremes (Boiled and Fried Half Boneless Spring Chicken with Stir Fry Vegetables, Crispy Butter, Lemongrass and chili Soy) or Ikan Bakar Grilled White Snapper, on Soured Purple Cabbage Chunky Pineapple and Curry Sauce). Just writing this, made me salivate and yearn for my next dining experience at H&SJ. This month is particularly special, especially for the Chinese community, H&S will ensure that their needs are well catered for, and there will be an inclusion of Chinese dishes to the menu to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
Vegetarians will love creations made specifically for their dietary needs, not forgetting those who would like to come to dine with their young ones over on a lazy Saturday afternoon.
If you have had the pleasure of dining at H&S or have plans to, you will be more than enthralled by the ambience, the soft, mellow music playing in the background and not to forget the affable staff. Did I mention that the staff is very skilled at recommending the best dish on the menu, of course, depending on your palate preference? Also, be sure to mention if you have any allergies for them to inform the chef of your dietary needs.
And if you are wondering how the seafood combination is paired, the restaurant comes with its own bar at the terrace that serves up Japanese Whiskies, Craft Gin as well as a variety of cocktail and mocktail options. The cocktails are intrinsic to H&S and have been infused with a various herbs and spices to give every bit of your sensory experience a twist not found anywhere else in Nairobi.
“This is a seasoned restaurant and a world full of Asian flavours and creativity,” commented my date Sonia.
H&S is open from Monday-Saturday between 12:00 pm-9:00 pm but closed on Sundays.
