Pristine beaches, distinct architecture, art, rich history of Stone Town (World Heritage Site), culture, food are some of the main aspects that make Zanzibar one of the most sought-after beach destinations. And to uncover one of these aspects; Art, Zanzibar Serena Hotel has partnered with Forster Gallery Zanzibar to host the first-ever international art auction. The art auction will take place on the 11th December 2021 and will feature 24 art pieces from all over Africa up for auction. Additionally, the auction will also be available online on the same date from 9 p.m. (local time Zanzibar: UTC +3).
About Forster Gallery
Markus (The Founder of Forster Gallery) has been living in Zanzibar for the last ten years and he has established an art gallery showcasing outstanding works of various local and African art greats. The collection is of exceptional quality.
“I have been living and working in Tanzania for the last 15 years. In 2008 I opened the Art Hotel Zanzibar to make it possible to experience African art and culture in a new way. We work closely with artists and galleries from all over the African continent.”
The success of this concept led to the development of the Forster Gallery Zanzibar with its OpenSpace. This unique feature of our gallery provides a fully equipped workplace for local artists.
Zanzibar Serena Hotel will host Forster Gallery as they showcase the art pieces and as well as promote local art to guests coming from both regional and international markets. Since, Serena Hotels is committed to preserving the architecture, heritage, and culture of the areas in which it operates; this partnership supports the company’s ethos of preserving local art and culture.
Additionally, Serena believes in introducing its visitors to the ‘real character and culture of their hosts’. Architecture and Culture are our expression of pluralism, a major potential source for economic and social development that tends to anchor Civil Society. Thus, priority is placed on sharing of experience and knowledge to promote appreciation and respect of cultural traditions and environmental responsibility to its guests.
